How pay after tax works in Malta

Malta keeps things comparatively simple with a single national income tax and no regional variation. What is unusual is that you choose the computation that fits your circumstances: there are separate Single, Married and Parent rate tables, each with a tax-free band followed by 15%, 25% and 35% steps. Picking the right one is the biggest driver of your result.

Employees also pay a Social Security Contribution (SSC) of 10%, capped at a weekly maximum, so above a certain salary the contribution is a fixed annual amount. Statutory government bonuses are paid on top during the year. The calculator applies your chosen rate table and the SSC to show your net pay.

What this calculator works out

  • Income tax on the Single, Married or Parent rate tables
  • Employee Social Security Contribution (SSC)
  • The capped weekly SSC maximum
  • Optional statutory government bonuses
